Setting Traps

MURR LEDGES, BAY OF FUNDY A cool November morning greets Beaver Mullen as he sets a trap on opening day of lobster season. The first two weeks of the fall lobster season are critical to the boat’s financial success. Typically, the first hauling yields the most lobsters; anything less than 1,500 pounds isn’t generally considered a good day. After the first big catch, subsequent hauls will yield fewer and fewer lobsters. To this day, lobster fishing remains Grand Manan’s most productive fishery.
